okay, so this is sweet, useless knowledge.
That Gold guy appears to be an incredible flake.
he has TWO blogs. And he appears to write in each nearly every day. what a wanker.

one sweet thing is the service industry is constantly saying 'ta' for thanks, what would you like, hello, etc. it's a bit insane. it's like some dickensian freaky thing....
but one sweet thing is that i'm researching the development of australian culture (there's several books on it), so i've learnt of lot that tends to explain the weirdness. There were lots of freed african slaves who settled here too, although they are not very visible (that's just a strange sidenote).
an unfortunate cultural tradition is people seem to start drinking extremely early, so by seven or eight the streets are filled with crazy super drunk people, which would be ok if i was one of them, but there you go.
