No Oscar yet... In the meantime, amuse yourself with this...
Just a quick update:
The movie began filming on Monday. We've had 4:30 call times both days. Monday was solely dedicated to us rowers....we're filming a bunch of small-ish sequences, as well as two larger ones involving Viking funerals!! The boat is a 60 ft long Viking-ship replica built by a Danish Viking expert. It, and the oars, are built mostly out of plywood, so we spent many hours on Monday just testing it to make sure it won't actually sink. After we got comfortable with rowing the damn thing, some of the minor cast members joined us for a spin. We couldn't help but notice the large ammount of wiring inside the ship - one of the crew has experience with demolition, and concluded that, at some point, the ship will be blown up! Sweet!!!
Today was a bit dull...the weather was absolutely shitty (yesterday was perfect), and included a hail storm at 6:30 am. The director decided to film as much of the "village" scene as possible, while us oarsmen got the shitty end of the stick...we pretty much just waited around in the freezing cold for 12 hours waiting for the weather to clear up, which it never did. The most exciting part of the day was most definitely the 4:30am bus ride to Lark Harbor, during which I chatted it up with Jon Hurt's double! A most fascinatingly drunk man! (John Hurt, by the way, was Chancellor Sutler in V for Vendetta and S.R. Hadden in Contact). He was absolutely fascinated by my "House of Hate" tale. Anyways, when we weren't sitting around, we were practicing hoisting/lowering the sail while still anchored at the dock. It went pretty smoothly, but the director really has to learn the difference between port and starboard!
Not much else to report on...tomorrow's supposed to be good sailing weather, so we're hoping to get most of the scenes done. Cameras are strictly forbidden and "will be confiscated", but I'm going to try to sneak a shot or two. I'll keep you huddled.
In the meantime, amuse yourself with the sequel to one of Phil-dawg's most memorable posts.

lest ye forget, john hurt was also the elephant man and a fine actor in many a fine role in many a fine film in many a fine studio.
got it vikingo? explosions were probably more frequent and more dynamic than our stodgy, whitewashed history books would have us believe of the viking era. i do have some reservations about this movie failing to acknowledge its proper debt to our man l ron hubbard, great man of alien-barbarian encounter science fiction. l ron should probably get a writing credit. kindly pass this along to the director of that excellent new l ron hubbard inspired sf viking extravaganza.
furthermore, you should rent ricky gervais's extras to get you in the proper mood for being an up and coming background artist.
have we made ourselves clear?
Any groupis hanging around the set? I bet Jonn Hurt's throw aways are still pretty good.
sweet live-bloggin' janesey- i mean, take one for the team, but not so sure about snappin a 'pic or 2'
and about the commercial: who remembers Demolition 2000- or whatever we called it- in Argentia!
yeah, that was sweet.
i think the term was...
IMPLOSION
not that i was there, but still... i was aware of it....
janes's roommate was probably one of hurt's old throw aways from his elephant man period. hence the alcoholism/ pity on janes/ dirtiness.
