Sad News from the Front

I'm very sad to report that Ben Janes (nee Gentle Ben) passed away peacefully this morning, July the 30th of 2010 at the age of 16. He suffered a seizure at around 7:00 am which, though mild, resulted in the paralysis of one side of his body. That, in addition to a heart murmur and the inability to use several important muscles, let to our decision to put him to sleep at roughly 10:30 am. His last few hours were peaceful, as were the last 16 years of his life (the last two of which were really pushing his luck). Needless to say, the house isn't quite the same without him around.

We're keeping this on the down-low, as we're not telling my sister until she returns from her vacation on Monday. It would suck if she found out beforehand on the Facebook...

R.I.P pooch, you will be missed.

arm.

so, some people know and others suspect that i broke my arm arm-wrestling. specifically, the torc of the muscle being pushed in the wrong direction tore the bone of my upper arm in two pieces in a spiral. from fri to mon, my upper arm was not connected by bone to the lower arm. on mon they used 5 screws and a metal plate to fuse the bones back together, although they fit together like a 3d jigsaw puzzle. now, i have a sling and small splint suspending my arm but it is generally much better. mostly i've been sleeping it off. jill has done everything possible to keep me comfortable and has been doing a really great job! so here's to jill and my well-wishers!

Cool, Vacation

Just now realized that I hadn't actually told anyone important that I'm flying into St. John's in a goddamned week(!).

Just now re-realized that m'self, apparently. Actually, it's late on the 18th, so, one week, one day.

No side-trips to see Johnsons or Cros-Slaters, sadly. But, pretty pleased. Pretty, pretty, pretty pleased to be headed out of this heat for a bit. Just when I got used to it.

Anyway, what did I miss since December? I hope everyone has sweet beards now.

Bed-Sitting Rooms

Donald got a bed-sit room/apt, but apparently Janes has never heard of this phenomenon.

So, my question is: Janes, sure did your parents not constantly hassle you about getting a bed-sitting apartment the moment you mentioned you needed a place to live? I mean, I can't believe that wasn't
Bev's first suggestion the second you were up in the HVGB (heevie-jeebie).

I know for a fact Suzanne was like Leith and fond of bringing it up at least once every six months. Tell me this isn't well known!

And the most amazing thing is that every time this subject was breached, I complained that there was no longer such a thing as a "bed-sit." And there, Donald goes and finds one. This can't be true.
