Phewf

Is that how you spell phewf? Is there an i in there somewhere maybe? Either way this will be the most commented on post for a long time to come based solely on that and that alone.

Anyways. Greetings Huddlerz. Long time no post. How's everybody? Although I don't actually comment or anything, I do check the huddle daily with my email. I am eagerly awaiting the quickly approaching summer. 2007 is come home year afterall, and I can't wait to see not just the people who've been away (or have appeared to be away i.e. Mikey Jane Jane who I've seen less than Luke (no complaints there Luke you sexy bastard)), but I'm just excited to have everybody together, something that hasn't happened in a long, long time. And it's bout time that old Phil married older Susan, I'm excited for you kids! Now if some of you other people would get the hint and get on the ball, we'll have another reason for everybody to come home next summer. I can't really help out. I mean they've legalized same sex marriages, but not three way same sex marriages yet, other wise Cory, Matthew and myself would have been hitched some time ago.

So I had very hecktic past month or more. As Jill and Stephen already know, lab exams happen the few weeks prior to the two weeks of finals, so it gets a little crazy near the end of the semester. Not to mention that the week after finals (or 5 days in my case), field school starts up which is a 6 day, 9 in the morning til 11 at night, non stop stress fest. Well actually it's really interesting, and walking around Flat Rock was awesome. I've included a few pictures from the past week, it was really nice some days... but not so much others. So anyways, I just finished that yesterday afternoon, so this is the first moment that I've had "to myself" in about five or six weeks. I use the quotations because I am leaving tomorrow for an unknown length of time with my new job. So basically today I'm running around, buying lots of boots, and packing for ~3 weeks in the middle of nowhere. I found out about this position in the middle of my lab exams and thus never had a chance to post about it. But basically it's the dream summer job that I wanted. I'm working with Messina Minerals, in central Newfoundland (near Red Indian Lake) and basically it's three weeks on, one week off. But they are apparently extremely flexible of when I take my time off, so the weeks of the two weddings shant be a problem. I hope to have as much time off during the short time that Tom and Jillian will be home. They are meant to be a really great company to work with as a student because they really try to involve you in every aspect of the company. Everything from mapping, working the drill, cutting up drill core, logging core, and other things that I don't know anything about yet. So it should be an awesome learning experience... I'm pumped.

The only issue about accepting the position was that I had to start May 1st, which meant that I was going to miss the vacation that my family and I had been planning since about the time I finished high school. We were all going to Florida for two weeks. Orlando for about five days, then hitting the coast for few days to play in the sea. So pretty much the funnest thing that you can imagine. But I decided that the experience was worth missing this trip over...

... that's what I thought anyways. Cause you see, the reason that I have time to write this post today is that I woke up this morning to an email from my new boss, asking me if I had my own transportation to Buchans for my May 15th start date. I promptly replied that there is some confusion, because the last time that I was in contact with him I asked and he CONFIRMED that May 1st was the FIRM start date, thus the reason that I am currently sitting in my room in Newfoundland and NOT in the beautiful sunny FLA. So I have yet to receive a reply from him, so I'm hoping that I am in fact starting this week... because I'm not really sure what I will do. I have someone subletting my place, I handed in a less than perfect field school report because I simply never had time to work on it all weekend long, and not to even mention the trip.

So besides the events of this morning, everything seems to be working out great. Oh, I forgot to say that I have tickets to see The Arcade Fire in T. in May. Massey hall (a relatively small venue). They are only playing two cities in all of Canada this year, and I have tickets in the second row! But I'm probably not going to make it to that either... do you guys know what I'm sacrificing for these weddings! I'm just kidding. Like I said, this is going to be a really, really great summer. I can't wait.

Oh I just got an email from him. It's all good. I accidentally hit 5 after the 1. Okay, in that case I've got to jet. Lots of things to do. Wow this is a really long post. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

p.s. I'll have internet at my camp, so I'll be around. The pictures are of a few of the waterfalls at Flat Rock. They are really rapid right now with the spring melt. The last one is one that I remember getting underneath in the summer... right now you would certainly get crushed by the volume of water and get swept into the sea. Cool!

Expression of Interest

Who'll be here on July 16th, 2007? Who's interested in going to see the White Stripes? Tickets are $42.50 and go on sale May 3rd. That's $25 cheaper than Gordon Lightfoot and $30 cheaper than The Hip, I only point that out because those concerts are fucking expensive but not expensive enough to put on a seperate post.

A good offense is the best defense

So, tomorrow is the day for Mr. Philip Johnson. Soon to become 'Master' Johson, (B.Sc.) --though clearly no such title will ever pass the lips of a Huddler, save in ironical jest :P-- he has but one hurdle yet to overcome: the Thesis Defense.

So, I thought considering that since Phil is the first of our lot to defend a proper Grad thesis (unless Jill has done the same, but hasn't been sharing), we should send him our proper well-wishes and encouragement.
Here's to Our Man in Van-

Good Luck tomorrow, Phil!

Back to the Avalon...

Well, the great Corner Brook excursion is over, and I am now back in St. John's. To be more specific, as Luke put it, I'm actually back to "Mountbatten". Hey, as I was leaving the city to drive back to town, I noticed another street in CB named "Mount Batten"! Coincidence? Meh, what do I care...I'm actually moving out in about 2 weeks to a place on New Gower! That's right..I've been home for a week and I'm sick of Mr. & Mrs. Fart already!

Anyways, I finally have SOME free time, which means your fears that I actually dissapeared from the face of the earth will hopefully be proven very wrong, very shortly.

I'd love to tell you all about it, but Ben just threw up outside my door, and I'd rather do it in person anyway, preferably over lots of alcohol. (Hint, Hint).

Anyways, a thought to ponder: I have three options in the fall...what are your opinions?

1) Apply-for/Accept a job in Edmonton at a school with a highly established music department

2) Apply-for/Accept a job in Happy Vallely-Goose Bay at a school with a highly established music department (yes, it's actually true)

3) Stay in St. John's and substitute, meanwhile collecting EI cheques from the government.

If I take one of the jobs, I think I'd go for the one in Labrador. It's cold, yes, but at least it's not Alberta. That being said, the substitute thing would be neat...I'd obviously have to spend my first EI cheque on Scotch and VLT's. Thoughts?

Let's drink!!!

Contest!

Here's some more pictures from the party. You've got "Cake Face", "Matching Tie and Shades" and I can't remember the other baby's name but she looks pretty gangsta holding those magnetic letters. A shiny dime to the person who comes up with the best title for the last picture. A nickle to the person who improves on "Matching Tie and Shades". It's impossible to improve on "Cake Face", that shits pure gold! If you've got extra time on your hands I guess you could come up with captions as well as titles, but unfortunately there will be no prizes awarded for that.

This is from Owen's birthday party (he's one), it's him on the right and Abygail(?) on the left. She's 2 weeks younger but 9 lbs heavier (30 against 21) and clearly much bigger. Owen was crawling along when he spotted a sippy cup and decided to have a drink. Abby then crawled over and knocked it out of his hands and took a drink for herself. Owen then let out a battle cry that sounded very much like Godzilla and grabbed it back. The swipes and grabs went back and forth a good 7 or 8 minutes while about a dozen adults stood by and cheered the battle royale. It goes without saying who was victorious (the top image should be on bottom).

Is Richard Gere worth burning in Effigy?

I think this picture shows us the answer: obviously, yes.

What a stud.

NEW DELHI - Angry crowds in several Indian cities burned effigies of
Richard Gere on Monday after he swept a popular Bollywood actress into his arms and kissed her several times during an AIDS awareness event. . .

In Mumbai, members of the right-wing Hindu nationalist group Shiv Sena beat burning effigies of Gere with sticks and set fire to glamorous shots of Shetty.

Hahahaha... oh, this story completely slays me. LOOK at that picture! hahaha. She is literally in AGONY! Oh, to be in her ungrateful shoes.

Reviews for a Chris O'Donnell movie.... Compare and contrast

Plot summary for
The Bachelor (1999)

advertisement
Jimmie (O'Donnell) is seeing his single friends get married one by one. He isn't too worried until his girlfriend Anne (Zellweger) catches the bouquet at his friend Marco's wedding. Suddenly, his wild mustang days are numbered. He finally decides to propose to her, but he sticks his foot in his mouth and botches the proposal. Being insulted by the defeatist proposal, Anne leaves town on an assignment. After she's gone, he finds out that his recently-deceased grandfather's will stipulates that he gets nothing of a multi-million dollar fortune unless he's married by 6:05pm on his 30th birthday: tomorrow! Not being able to find Anne, Jimmie begins backtracking through his past girlfriends to find a wife. Written by Tony B

James Shannon III is a man who is somewhat gullible at keeping relationships with his girlfriends. But one day, he meets Anne Arden and suddenly his life is changed. It is then that the night he was supposed to propose to her that he returns back to his old self again. This upsets Anne completely. Soon enough his grandfather dies and leaves Jimmie an inheritance of $100 Million with one huge condition: Jimmie *must* get married on his 30th birthday by no later than 6:05pm Pacific Standard Time or else his San Francisco-based pool table company goes under and/or will be sold, his bank accounts will be frozen, and employees will be laid off completely. Jimmie must now use every attempt to learn from his foolish mistakes, find his true love, get married, and save the company in one day. Written by Anonymous

Jimmie Shannon is a man who has had dozens of girlfriends and they all break up with him cause he is unwilling to commit. But when he meets Anne, he starts to loosen up a but is still a little hesitant. Even his blustery grandfather, who is concerned of the fate of the Shannon line, is nagging him to get married and have children. So he decides to take that step but he is so nervous that he botches the proposal. Anne is disappointed in him. When his grandfather dies and the will is read, they discover that he has left Jimmie 100 million but only if he gets married by his 30th birthday which is the next day. Jimmie then decides to propose to Anne again and this time does a little better but when Anne questions his eagerness and if he truly wants to marry him he freezes, she then gets on a plane for Greece. She gets off the plane at the last minute and goes to visit her parents. Jimmie then learns that if he doesn't get the inheritance which includes the business, a company that has a reputation of buying a business and then stripping it for all that it is worth and then laying off the employees, will buy it and lay off all of the employees. Jimmie is adivised to find someone else to marry so he goes through his black book and proceeds to ask every girl he has dated to marry him only some of them are still stinging from his breaking up with them, others think that it's a travesty what he is proposing, or he just continues to propose badly. You've got to watch it build though- so relax for a minute or two, and see how modern music is made! Just so it's clear to everyone, (Cocobutter), this is the best video in the history of the world. He then extended his 1.06m-long arm into the mammals' stomachs.

... woops, wrong subject!
... And yet, a certain poetic justice comes to mind as I reflect on the tallness and greatness of these two birthday'ed friends, with long metaphorical webbased arms extended down the gaping jaws of those of us who care to huddle, who might be dare i say biocurious? those (metaphorically) unseemly-stretched fellow travellers on life's long lustless highway, accompanying one T Alejandro Crizby from the verdant Vanier (although Phil, despite much discussion to the contrary, will always be a vanier-latecomer... sorry phil...) to MDJH and the highs and lows of ybc bballz, p-dubs and yonder Mun....

Googling this fine fair fellows, what do we find? Luke Quinton:

One PM Johnson:

What will the new year bring these two frisbee and crizzbee afficionados? I predict the old carl-wells double-play: a bride left at the alter as our queer fine fellows marry one another (!) in a jaunty summer civil ceremony, presided over by none other than our own T Alejandro Crizby (web reverend of this very blog)--regardless, this fine pair deserves the best, and though they've put the chum in chummmmmmm----p for 10 years running, they deserve a resounding Burns-ian round of their special chum(p) poem, "A Man's a Man for A'That":

A prince can mak a belted knight,
A marquis, duke, an a' that!
But an honest man's aboon his might -
Guid faith, he mauna fa' that!
For a' that, an a' that,
Their dignities, an a' that,
The pith o sense an pride o worth,
Are higher rank than a' that.
Then let us pray that come it may
(As come it will for a' that),
That Sense and Worth o'er a' the earth,
Shall bear the gree an a' that.
For a' that, an a' that,
It's coming yet for a' that,
That man to man, the world, o'er
Shall brithers be for a' that.

... followed by a joyful line of bikini birthday wellwishers:
