Fucking Math

Why is Math so Fucking Hard?

I just took my 3rd math test this semester, and despite my increased studying, just got my ass whooped and fucking thrown down the hall-again.

I'm only taking it 'cause i have to, of course, and I don't know if anyone else had the same problem, but this course is no Multiple Choice- and consistently, it's over things that are beyond what we see in Homework, etc. I say this is bullshit. So, just in case you were wondering, I fucking hate math, and I want it to die.

here are some helpful words from Jimmy Buffett:
Math sucks (math sucks)
Math sucks (math sucks)
I'd like to burn this textbook, I hate this stuff so much!
Math sucks (math sucks)
Math sucks (math sucks)

Sometimes I think that I don't know that much--But math sucks!

Apologies for the rant. Any help would be appreciated. Hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

Praying for the Whiskey Romeo Alpha Poppa

That's WRAP for all you cats out there who aren't hip to the movie-making lingo. That's right! The big day is fast approaching. We start shooting on Saturday morning, at an ungodly hour, and we should be finito by 3am on Tuesday morn. It's going to be a full 2.5 days, so I've developped a mantra to get me through it. Feel free to use it during times of stress:

"Please don't let me fuck up. Please don't let me fuck up. Please don't let me fuck up."

Not bad hey? Tim (of HR! fame) keeps suggesting "Breathe. Prepare. Breathe." But I like mine better. More, shall we say, to the point?

I'm half excited, half utterly shitbaked. Almost all the pieces have come together (remarkably), and I have one of the best frigging crews around - including my right hand gal, "Laura Chuchill: Continuity". Because no one's working on any "real movies" right now, i've got some of the top people in the business working on this - and for free no less! Well, by free I mean a bottle of wine each. But that's almost free! And the drunker they are, the more forgiving they'll be about the lack of pay.

But, all the same, I'm going to be a much more pleasant person after we're finished shooting.

On another note, my finches have gone a little bit whacko. They've undertaken the huge task of building a nest in this little, ornate cage I was given as a gift. Over the last month, they've picked up every bit of fluff and string off my floor, and have snatched up the ribbons and scraps that my mother has hung in the makeshift tree i've got next to the cage. Here's the current state of the ever-growing nest:

If we continue to put stuff out for them, I think they're going to keep building until they've got four walls, a roof and a driveway.

Anyway, please say a little prayer that the shoot goes well this weekend. And, if it does, hopefully you'll all be around to see the film this summer at the Nickel!

"I like it when they all go down."

What do you guys think of our Work Bowling Team Logo? I think it suits me quite fine if I do say so myslef. Even if we're shit at bowling at least we'll look good.
Not sure if anyone other than Jordan knows...but I'm moving out of my house. I've lived home for a year and the intensity that is the Churchill household is driving me insane. So I decided to rent a nice 1bdrm over Quintana's competitor on Bates Hill. Luke I'm sorry, but if they're going to feed me free food I'm giong to have to eat it no matter how second rate it is! Don't hate me. Either way the move starts next week which means the party shall be the week after. I'll keep you guys posted as to when the gathering shall occur.

Hip! Hip! Huzzah!!

hip hip huzzah everybody!

(I recommend everyone look up "huzzah" on google images, re. stormtrooper). I'm following in line with my earlier recommendation which was passed by popular request (luke) with some yays cast in absentia (the rest of you schlobs). So, here is it:

Post 1/3: Wed. 3:44 PM Australia time.
Not much to report. Glad about election results re. my amendmant. I was especially pleased by the crowd's passionate "huzzahs" on hearing the results, which left me frankly tearful. I'm saddened that my picture option doesn't seem to be working (I call that the curse of cory). Not much else going on... not much to report.... nope... nothing much to say.... why write at all i'd like to know!! well, here's some straight dope for your schmos: Twin Peaks is a very sweet program on the tele (to rent (or hire as we say) only). Bad news...

...I'm dying. Sorry but it's true, having to get up at 6:30 (AM!) to go to work is litterally killing me. The people there don't seem to care either, they just keep going on and on about fucking mortgage's and identity theft, I swear they've warned me against stealing peoples information so often that I'm going to do it the first chance I get just to prove that I can...that's if I survive another two weeks of training. For those who don't know (most of you) I'm currently working at ICT, an inbound call centre. The only good part about working there is the guy who sits next to me. His name is William which I'll never forget since it's tattooed from his wrist to his elbow. I just hope the end comes before I have to study for exams.

P.S.'s

1) For those of you wondering about Matthew, he has cut all ties with his former life and has commited himself to Law school and Les Canadiens. Other than that he plays a lot of poker and is well.

2) I see Allison Bailey's name but I don't see any posts?!?

3) I see Janesey's posts but I don't see his face!?!

4) Tom, I just finished season 2 of Deadwood, suffice it to say that it's even better than season 1.

5) Extra Boo's to Phil for not joining Susan at the Buddy etc. show, I'd see anything for a chance at her ghetto booty.

Is You 'Appy?

SO!

What does a Newfoundlander do to cheer up whilst living away from home and feeling homesick? Why, go see Buddy Wasisname and the Other Fellers of course! I couldn't convince Philip to go so I educated a fellow co-worker on NFLD song. She had a fantastic time (as did I) watching Kevin go completely mental for 3 hours. It's good to hear that accent again and wipe a tear for a song or two.

There were about 200 people there and half of them were from home. Da boys decided to explain townie vs bayman so they asked who was a townie (and about 15 of us hooted) then they asked who was a bayman (and the place hit the roof). I then had to explain THAT to my friend.

I even discovered a Lower Mainland Newfoundland & Labrador Heritage Society (www.nfldsocietybc.com) here that you can become a member of and go to lots of Newfie gatherings throughout the year. Next month, they're having Bingo and pea soup with dumplings! Now, if dat don't say Newfoundland, wha?

Blizzard much?

Hey ladies & gents. Well, as you might guess, the so-called "Winter" that occurs down here for a few months, is essentially gone. Only a few cold-spots remain, and they are pretty welcome to have. But that doesn't mean that you can't be homesick for a little Blizzard action!
As those of you in St. John's can tell us, there's a good-sized Blizzard literally sweeping over Eastern Newfoundland as we speak. In the middle of it, my madre is supposed to make it to the health-sciences, the restaurants are closed, and my dad is supposed to be flying in from Toronto at 4! Hope he doesn't get stuck in the 'Fax.

Speaking of the 'Fax... where's Matthew these days? what, did law school suddenly get hard? ;)

For anyone else a little homesick, here's a really nicely done story by Karl Wells about a brief History of corner grocery stores in the city. Some pretty sweet old footage. Enjoy!
Anyway, I hope that if you're in the middle of it, safe at home, you're enjoying a delicious Blizzard, and that if you're out driving around, the heat works in your car- be safe!

Hello Laddies, Tom here. Now, let's cast an eye to the photo to my right. Any thoughts? Interesting isn't it? The horse head and the owl are pretty wicked.

I think as a blogging community there should be more action during the weekends, when some of us are half-heartedly engaged in work, while the rest are getting loaded and eating delicious breakfasts at Irving's and whatever else you shameless nutbirds get up to.

We should all try and post three times a day, that way there will never be a dearth of fascinating quips, wisecracks, and jabs, just as there is currently no dearth of wiseacres (person regarded as being disagreeably egotistical and self-assured) and quibbling jabberwockers, despite their self-indulgent solipcism on the weekends. The humanity!!!! (As Janes might say...?)

The humanity!!!!!!!

Random Thought # 6312

With all the know-how that exists among today's scientists, why haven't giant kiwi fruits been invented yet? With all the pleasure of eating a soft boiled egg, but with the sweet goodness of a green fleshed kiwi, you would think it an obvious next step in the world of genetically modified food. Just imagine: kiwis the size of grapefruits. Wouldn't that make things just a little bit better in this crazy, mixed-up world we live in?

I don't know why I keep doing this, but...

But here.
Hasselhoff, unleashed.

Holy Flarking Shnit.....

Check this out:

Now, I know most of you prefer the usual singer/songwriter/wanker when it comes to musical taste, but who doesn't appreciate a kick-ass drum solo once in a while?

Oh, forgot to mention that the kid's twelve years old. FUCKING TWELVE YEARS OLD!!! And it's actually tasteful!! Pay attention to about 2:05 and 6:25 into it.....absolutely incredible....

Meanwhile, I've gotta go teach ta-ti-ti-ta to a bunch of ADD kids of the same age tomorrow...maybe i'll just show'em this video and say "DO IT".

think i'll go listen to some Helix.

The Trembling Eucalypt

Hello Everyone...

Well, here are the engravings of some sketches of the Australian coastline that I've made at the behest of Jill. Which one is the best?

I must say, they turned out rather better than I'd thought. Jolly good really.

Not much happening here. Just reading and writing. We did watch Season 2 of Deadwood last weekend, which was extremely excellent. When Swerengen gets a shiv upside the head in the last minute of the last episode, it's classic. What did you guys think?? I also liked when Alma buys it. It's good when the hooples gang up on the squareheads too. The action is the best part.

That's all I got. I hope Titus writes some more, that would definately be brilliant. If anyone is interested in a comparison of Australian and Canadian literature, let me know by the way.... I need all the help I can get....

Signed,

Yours Truly,

Sincerely & Delicately,

Radiohead-Returns

Radiohead are set to put out a new record sometime in 06, which, I think, is a good thing.
It seems at the right time, so long as it's good.

In the meantime, there's a cover album out. Check out this amazing video of a cover by the lead singer of Phantom Planet.
"Just" gone funky~

are you excited?

Tell me!

Who the sweet fuck is Ian?!?! I demand to know! And there's no way there are 3 hotties on this shit, there's me and Cribsie and that's it. And why didn't anyone leave a comment on my last post, granted there wasn't much there but come on. There are certain people checking this thing 15 times a day, the least someone could have done was give me a pity comment or something just to waste time.

This Friday there will be a party at my place in honour of St. Patrick. Wear green, bring booze and tell your friends (don't bring 'em, just tell 'em). All are welcome and expected, particularly Ian, me and my shillelagh are eager to meet he. If anyone has any Irish music (NOT irish newfoundland music, IRISH music) feel free to bring it along. 52 Long Pond rd for those who don't know.

There once was a mug full o'beer
Which brought the Huddle to Cheer
On friday March seventeen
All ale will flow green
And Jaboc will have much to fear!

ok guys...here's the challenge...I want to hear the best Limerick ya'll can make up. This friday is the big day. The one we've all been training for...that's right! St. Pat's is nearing. I cannot wait. If someone could also post the plan for friday nite it would be great. I'm looking for a place to consume mass amounts of green ale.

Anyone know how to speak 日本ese?

(For those who don't know, I am going here)

Being the naive Canadian that I am, I've never flown anywhere significant on anything other than Air Canada. It is a universal truth that Air Canada is garbage, reasons for which include Arm+Leg prices going anywhere East of Toronto, uncomfortable planes, their inability to turn a profit, etc, etc. Even knowing this, it was a little nerve-wracking to find out I wouldn't be flying on our Maple Leaf-branded planes, but instead JAL -- more or less the japanese equivalent of AC, but significantly "bigger" in just about every sense, including the fact that they fly Boeing 747s instead of dinky Airbus A340s (though that is a sweet photo) or Boeing 767s across the pacific.

Well, I just got my tickets today, and I'm not sure this has helped my fears any. Starting out, it seemed pretty good:

Flipping it over, fair enough, I think the most recent Air Canada ticket book had ads as well. Still, a bit intimidating:

But then opening it up, things just get weird:

Why is the luggage so upset about the expensive items? Why is the passenger's chair floating over a dark chasm of insanity? And most importantly, why is one title in English, and one in 日本ese?! Let's hope the flight attendants know a little English!

While we're at it, any suggestions on what to do for the 12 hours of flying each way? The newer JAL 747s apparently have on-demand TVs for each seat, but in case I get an old one, should I just (Crosbie's suggestion) pop sleeping pills? There are also rumours on the internets that some of the planes have wifi, which would also help, but that still won't fill 12 hours! Discuss.

Waste of time

This is Jacob from last weekend, he's all tuckered out from puking for 2 hours. My house has a cat that sheds like crazy. I'm constantly covered in cat fur but I just don't care to do anything about it (like stopping picking the cat up). Uploading a picture apparently takes forever. hmm, well whats everyone up to, oh does anyone care that Canada beat the US in the World Baseball Classic? The best part was rubbing it in Tom Cambells face, especially since he actually cares unlike Jill. Will everyone be celebrating St. Patrick's Day next weekend (or whenever it occurs?)? I can't decide whether I should go to Jacob's party or just hold a rival party. Oh for fuck sakes it didn't work. Fuck this if you want to see the picture email me. Later.

The Pimpsons

Hey I found this sweet video of a live action intro to The Simpsons. http://www.break.com/index/realsimpsons5.html

And to all those fuckers who are outside of our beautiful province during these winter months, here's what my car looked like at the halfway point of one of our big dumps of snow we got a little while ago. We shoveled all of the snow out that night, and the next day we had just about the same amount again.

On Crash

Possibly the best criticism I've read (on some random site in the middle of the internet):

"It's a hack's standby: counterpoint one absurd, melodramatic oversimplification by its equally absurd polar opposite and call it "nuance." I'm all for contradiction in character and storytelling, but if the material is all stupid, then the contradiction is stupid too."

That more or less sums up how I feel about this year's "best picture". Sad.

Miser.ca

Just a few notes (don't ignore Luke's last post for this one--I'm still in the running and when it comes time to vote, I want an educated audience):

1. visit miser.ca for great deals around town. It's a GREAT site everyone should visit and support. Got it?
2. vide the picture to my left: a nice and grainy view of my place of learning (La Trobe University).
3. can anyone tell me what happened to MATTHEW??
4. for those of you who have never experience jake's vomitations, sounds like you missed the boat last weekend.
5. books.google.ca is also an extremely sweet site.

Who did the most interesting thing this weekend? (we can vote later)

I'll start: this weekend, I went to a real-live Texas Honky Tonk
Ginny's Little Longhorn. . . a place that only sells beer, but you can bring your own liquor. And some friends even got cut-off by Ginny.

Note to self: Only kill things that are ugly...

For those of you currently residing outside of our home country (oh, and Nina too, who I'm sure by now considers herself an honorary citizen), as you may or may not have heard, the beloved Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, Rhodes Scholar and self-made millionaire Danny Willians appeared this evening on Larry King Live in defence of our country's annual seal hunt (or seal "cull", if you believe the opposing side's view). And just who was brought in by the Animal Rights groups to oppose the verbal war-machine that is Danny Williams? Why, none other than world renowned sealing expert and ex-popstar Paul McCartney, flanked by his adoring and unbelievably inarticulate wife Heather.

Now, I think we all know my opinions on this matter, but I'm not here to start a debate amongst friends. While I personally could never bring myself to lay a beatdown on a seal (they ARE pretty cute, after all...), I fully recognize the economic, environmental and cultural benefits of the hunt.

What I AM asking for is opinions from those who viewed the program regarding the structure of the debate itself (for those of you who didn't watch, you can read the transcript here). To me, it seemed rather lop-sided towards the McCartney's view (though it's also pretty obvious that Danny had no hope to begin with, and that his appearance was doomed from the start). They were given a full half hour to deliver their side of the story, completely unchallenged and backed-up by footage we've all seen before of the hunt itself, complete with blood and guts and "barbaric" Newfoundlanders gettin' their recreational pleasure out of whackin' some seals.

Danny, on the other hand, got to deliver our side of the story (assuming you're pro-hunt, of course) under constant questioning and frequent lengthy interruptions by Paul and Heather (especially by Heather *shudder*). He spoke for maybe 7 minutes in total, hardly enough time to deliver the facts and an adquate response to the constant scrutiny and profound arguments of future president of Mensa International Heather McCartney (Stephen Harper....Harp Seals....anyone pickin' up on what she's puttin' down???) Hardly seemed to fair to me.

So what'd y'all think? And sorry if this post is a bit long and heated - but I'm a bit drunk and contrary, so I don't really care. :D

Do The Right Thing

As you can see, My lovelies...... we have lots to offer in the great state of Texas, including, this week's offering, Mr. Spike Lee. My main man, Spike made an appearance in front of 2,500 students in the Mall at my wonderful little institution Southwest Texas in San Marcos. If you were wondering, it's hot here now. Yes, Spring (basically summer) has arrived (Yes, I'm aware it's the beginning of March.) So, it was a nice night to be out and about.

And along with hot weather (it was 29 degrees yesterday), comes the greatest of all nature's creations: BUGS! As you have surely imagined, the south is full of bunches and bunches of weird and wonderful bugs, the likes of which will never be seen north of the border.

Take for example my little friend here.
wicked. It was hanging around the screen in my apartment, until I fucked around with it, (taking pictures) and it flew away. sweet/freaky.
I played raquettball for the first time in my life yesterday with one of my roommates, and man, it's a pretty crazy game... but I caught the hang of it, and even won a game. So, what's your opinion on raquetball (and bugs?)
