Battle of the campus views.

The view from Luke's campus was pretty good what with the hat-wearing building and all, but my view has a little... je ne sais quoi.

What do you do with a dress like that?

A while ago on his now-defunct personal weblog, Luke linked to a short peice of prose that was really quite beautiful (though it certainly helps that we all know what St. John's is like). I'll repost it here for those who missed it the first time around:

Now the dress is tucked away in my closet. What do you do with a dress like that? A closet in an old rickety house in downtown St. John’s with rain and dark skies and frost on the front steps in the morning and the pigeons flying up. All the folds and gleaming shininess.
- from Lisa Moore's weblog.

If you read the site it has a rather long story all about the dress, but we never get to see it. Well, I just saw a picture of Lisa Moore on the CBC website in what has to be that dress, and for whatevere reason, I'm glad to close that circle. Here it is, reproduced from Nfld. writer Moore wins regional Commonwealth Prize:

Feist made it all good again.

Hey guys,
Since I saw Arielle's post I had to drop these on there. The story goes...
Matthew and I were having a pretty bad month in our relationship. Big time rut and all. Well things were going pretty good at the show, but not perfect. Feist asks the crowd "Are there any couples out there that are having a hard time getting along and trying to figure out if it's worth it"(Or something like that) Well I raised my hand like Horsack and Feist asks Matthew and I on stage. She announces to everyone our name and that this song is for us and we're to slowdance for everyone. Well we did dance among the cables and drum set to the beautiful song "Let it Die". Now since then things have been working out quite well. It's hard for something like that not to leave an impression. That, my friends, is how Feist saved our relationship.

Overheard Tonight in a Third Floor Computer Lab:

"Dude! i got a wicked idea for a tattoo: Okay, the Republic ensignia on one arm, and the Rebel Alliance symbol on the other one!"

Pic of the Week: Campus View

Thought y'all might like to see where I go to school. Thanks to my new camera (Muchas Gracias, Madre Y Padre!) here it is.

nothing great, but a nice overview of the quad (tree-line) leading up to Old Main, the original college building, 1899. Facing east from the 6th floor of the library through a dirty window.

Here's me Pics, budday

(Crokinole- what a game!)

Well Hope everyone's had a great start to the New Year 2006.
I'm impressing myself so far: getting my pictures organized, sending thank-yous cards, organizing school, making all of my flights to actually make it back to Austin. Like I said, impressive...well by my standards. Okay, not so impressive. But i'm working on it!

So, as the grateful recepient of a brand new digital camera(!) I did my best to document my Christmas at home. In the spirit of brother/sisterhood that is the HH, I'm also looking for a great way to share my pictures, without the hassle of signing in, and going through a bit of a ringer. Ofoto works allright I guess, but compared to my ideal site (flickr.com), it looks pretty sad. Equally sad though, is that flickr. only lets you use a small amount of space, and I don't want to screw around to make my pics. smaller, nor do I want to actually pay :)
So, Until Google (masters of the univese) come up with some crazy way to share and store pictures (I mean, seriously, this can't be far off, they've already got the rest of the world under their greedy fingers) I am going to switch to Shutterfly. it is unlimited storage, easy uploading, and they gave me a direct link.

So check out me pics at my new address:

lukequinton.shutterfly.com!

Everyone should know the password. There are a lot there, because I haven't edited them (my bad) but the slideshow is still worth it, I think (i'm biased). And if anyone else is interested, maybe they have a friend link-up (like ofoto's, which I can't seem to work).
In Brief:
-Sorry I didn't get the chance to officially see M.G.R off, or Gauc, before I left... time flies man, especially if some people aren't exactly sure what day they fly (not that anyone we know does this).
-The new Sarah Harmer cd "i'm a mountain" is wicked. chilled bluegrass, folky stuff, and she's changed her vocal approach a bit for these tunes.
-Congrats to Coco Butter for movin' to his very own Crib. wordup> how goes it so far?

*let me know how the pics go.
Later, fools.

The Legend that is Shooby Taylor

William "Shooby" Taylor (a.k.a. "The Human Horn") is "a little bit famous" for scat singing over various records, including Ink Spots, the Harmonicats and country gospel in a baritone voice. He is noted for his highly idiosyncratic scat style, using sounds and syllables quite unlike those used by other scat singers. He is most famously known for the 14 tracks he recorded in the early 1980's, at the now nonexistent Angel Sound Studios in Manhattan. These recordings began circulating among tape and file-swappers.

Sadly, Mr. Taylor passed away in 2003, completely obvlious to the near-fame and cult following he had accumulated over years. While his recordings are commercially unavailable, fans have now archived his genius on the World Wide Web, which can be found at:

http://www.shooby.com/mp3/index.html

I urge you all to listen to these tracks, in particular to "Stout-Hearted Man" and "How Great Thou Art", and pass the word along to all of your friends, so that the Legend, nay, the Genius that is Shooby Taylor will never be forgotten.

The Jear of Yacob

Well 2005 was filled with lots of fun and success. Many of us received our degrees and have made significant progress with the rest of our lives. For those of you who graduated in ’04, congradufuckulations. Anyways, despite the lack of success during my personal search for employment, all that’s in the past… for I would like to welcome you all to the official YEAR OF JACOB (not to be mistaken with the SUMMER OF JACOB back in the summer of ‘04). Yes I am looking forward to it. I started the list of resolutions this evening by starting to cook meals each night for supper and, in tern, learn how to cook a wide variety of dishes. Although most of you may think spaghetti an easy meal to prepare, few of you have ever seen me in a kitchen. Reviews were astounding. Many remarked a distinct “bite”, that seemed to reinvent and revolutionize the way spaghetti sauce will be made forever. So tomorrow is mac and cheese, and then…. Who know? The sky’s the limit!
Anyways, happy new year to everyone and I hope to see all of you in July for the big Wedding. TPB Brethren memberships have been expired for too long, I think it’s time we renewed then and perhaps did some recruiting, eh Phil?
If anyone would like to see a taste of the fun that happened this Christmas, check out my photos at www.ofoto.com . User name jacobprince@gmail.com , password photos.
Later gators!

First 2006 Post, Booyah!

Happy New Years to all you fools! I hope everyone's New Year's Eve went well, the party at Tom and Brad's was very fun, though the next day was not. I threw up all over the bathroom, that was unfortunate. I only have one resolution this year, I have to give up the gangsta life, it's too hard on my family. In other news I'm hoping to move in with Brad and Tom Campbell at a house they are house sitting this semester. That should be fun but I'm not looking forward to telling Mother, maybe I'll just stay over there all the time and it will gradually become clear that I've moved out. Of course, then she might think I'm gay and am just staying over at my boyfriends house...hm, I'm still thinking about that one. The party at Holyrood was good, though we didn't quite get to 24 hours for the drink-a-thon, only about 14. Myself, Matthew and Tom realized that 24 hours was a bit unreasonable so we agreed that as long as we weren't the first to go to bed, that is as long as we outlasted Jacob, we could hold our heads high. I think we all went to bed within 5 minutes of Jacob going to bed. All in all it was a good warm-up for Hinchey's bachelor party which he has decided will be a 24 hour event. Hope to see you all more often (or at all Phil and Sue) in the New Year.
