Ski-doos ski-doos trikes and . . . Holy Fuck I can't believe what we just saw.
What is there to say about last night. There is Sooo much to say, it'd be better talking about something else because if we get started on this, there ain't no comin' back.First things first: We (Jaboc, J-dawg, Hinchey et al.) scammed our way onto George Street last night for the last night of the festival. The lineup: Hey Rosetta! Matt Mays and Bedouin Soundclash. It was a "win to get in" but we were wicked, so we just strolled on down the street a twee bit early, walked in like bandits, we did (with a few thousand others). Among the rumours bounded around: That Gazeebow Unit were seen at the soundcheck preppin' a song with Matt Mays. Tim's prediction: 'I think the b'ys are gonna play with MM.' We remained skeptical. That was followed by more hanging out, chillin' on the deck at Peddler's and waitin' for HR! to get on.
Then, my friends, Tim & Co. played
But, my friends, there is so much more. Matt Mays was up next, and started pretty solid, but even though I'm a big fan, he bored me for the first 45 mins or so (with a few exceptions). He failed to read the crowd, and played it too slow. But, half way in, with the Sun Going Down (damn that bastard for not playing Standown at Sundown) he picked it up again, and brought it on strong for the burgeoning crowd.
At the Zenith of his show, however, things changed a little bit. Mr. Mays paused to tell us a story, and (we realized by now what was coming) he introduced a group of hooligans who moved from the wings out to center stage.
Yes, friends, it was indeed the Gazeebow Unit.
I was in total shock during their entire show (how do you say. . . starstruck?) What can you say, but that they brought down the house. It was ridiculous and out of control. There are few words to describe the live rendition of 'Trikes and Bikes.'Matt Mays backed them up, and kept the beat pumpin, their two gazeebow "skeet-thugs" on either side filled the tough job of crotch-grabbin', signin' (werd) and general fist pumpin.' Needless to say, the crowd went Retarded in a mix of excitement and fear, and the boys from El Torpedo had to try and stop laughing at several points. Mike Shanks was pretty sweet, if you're wondering, and they departed (dragged out by security) after the show (punctuated with a one of them flippin' the crowd the bird).
Yeeiiis.
Bedouin Soundclash was a lot of fun (esp. their opening tracks), and were better than I expected- all 3 players are pretty sick, and it was good times. But it was no Gazeebow. I know you all wanted to be there. You were there, with us in the Gazeebow in spirit. Comment on that biatches, or I'll smack yer mudder, Yeeiiisss?
